Cadence to be 750 strong in India

HYDERABAD: San Jose based Cadence Design Systems is planning to increase the Indian headcount from the present 600 to 750 by the end of 2006. Also the company has plans to open up a sales and marketing office in Hyderabad.



The $1.1 billion company is the world's largest supplier of EDA technologies and engineering services. It has the second largest research and development center outside US, in India, which presently houses 450 engineers. The core activities of the R&D would include digital and analogue IC, IC verification, etc. Besides, the Indian operations also include global technical and customer support activity, global IT support being supported from here.



With over 600 customers in India alone, the company is also laying inroads into neighboring countries like Sri Lanka, Pakistan and Bangladesh. "We have already got one or two prospective customers in Sri Lanka, and we hope to get the same feedback from Bangladesh too," said Rohit Biddappa, Marcom manager.



"With the increasing need to integrate the design activities and with the convergence of devices happening in a big way, our products need to support the changing technology standards and improvise computing levels. Thereby increasing the need for optimized solutions constantly. R&D is a continuous activity and presently we are focusing on the 65/40 nanometer geometrical standards," explained Biddappa.



The company has got more than ten potential customers in Hyderabad and with the potential customer increasing at a faster pace, a sales and marketing office would come up by the end of 2005. Also assuming that the country's first commercial fab unit takes off, companies like Cadence will have a far greater role to play, added Biddappa.



With its offices in Europe, Asia-Pacific, North America, Japan, the company has around 4,800 employees globally.
