Cabletron introduces Smart Load Balancer Switch

BANGALORE: Cabletron Systems has announced the availability of its Smart Load Balancer line of switches by integrating server load balancing into its SmartSwitch Router (SSR) family. The Smart Load Balancer provides a high capacity solution for large-scale web hosting by enterprise data centers or content providers. The SSR-based layer-4 technology is also suitable for application hosting by Application Service Providers (ASPs).

The Smart Load Balancer comes in two configurations. The SLB-1000, with 24 10/1000 Ethernet ports and two 1000BASE-SX multi-mode fiber ports and SLB-2000, with eight 1000BASE-SX multi-mode fiber ports.

Cabletron COO Romulus Pereira said, "In addition to balancing network load at wire speeds, our implementation verifies that applications are still up and running, and continues transactions on backup servers in the event of a failure. We are excited to be able to address an exponentially growing market with the right product at the right time."
