The symposium is the first in a series of seminars to be held at six cities (New Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Bangalore and Thiruvananthapuram) in the next six months under the banner ‘PKI Outreach Programme (POP)’.

POP aims to create awareness on the important topic of PKI, central to e-commerce, e-governance and other activities related to the Internet.

As part of the campaign, C-DAC will offer three types of programmes – one-day symposia, two-day workshops and three-day training programmes, across the country during the next two years, said a press release.

These programmes are targeted to provide insight into the PKI for adapting secure communications over the cyberspace on applications on e-governance, online transactions, e-commerce, etc.

“Given the rapid spread of internet in the country and the vulnerabilities of the users, it is important for India to develop the eco-system for building secure e-Commerce,” said S. Ramakrishnan, Director General, C-DAC, who inaugurated the programme.

He said the broadband revolution and next generation mobile revolution driven by 3G will fuel growth in this segment.

“PKI has to go hand-in-hand with broad-based participation and awareness to ensure safe and exponential growth. By conducting this pioneering series, C-DAC has been given an important technology as well as promotional role,” Ramakrishnan added.

The symposium was attended by top officials from various government departments, police and fire forces, industries, banking and financial institutions, professionals and academia.
