The theme for C Change 2006, which started on Thursday, was Leading Through Technology Driven Innovation.

Stressing on the need for continuous innovation, Gupta said, “Today's innovation will be common thing tomorrow.”

Group discussions or brainstorming sessions more often trigger innovative ideas. However, only one or two ideas among hundreds that may emerge out of these sessions would be selected.

“Fundamentally, innovation has to start from individual levels. At the same time, rewards will be in the different ways,” Gupta said. He added quoting Survey of Boston Consulting that the key concern of a majority of global CEOs was innovation.

Gupta also pointed at the misconception that only big ideas bring success. He narrated the story of Russians deciding to use pencils for their space voyages, while the NASA spent much money to invent a pen that would work in low pressure conditions. “The idea to use the pencil was small, but the impact was tremendous,” he said.

Gupta said the importance of innovation, types of innovation, creation and selection of innovation, steps to innovate and personal agenda were the essentials for innovation.
