BWA auction concludes

NEW DELHI, INDIA: The  auction for the sale of airwaves for broadband wireless access (BWA) ended today and the financial details and the details of the winners will be announced today, said a DoT official on conditions of anonymity.

The provisional revenue from the BWA auction had reached Rs.38,323.71 crore ($8.51 billion) on Thursday and the pan-India licence price touched Rs.12,774.57 crore ($2.83 billion).

As many as 11 companies - Bharti Airtel, Reliance WiMax, Idea Cellular, Aircel, Augere Mauritius Ltd, Infotel Broadband Services, Qualcomm, Spice Internet Service Provider, Tata Communications Internet Services, Tikona Digital Networks and Vodafone Essar - had participated in the e-auction that began on May 24.
