HYDERABAD: In its bid to increase the number of mobile users, Bharat Sanchar
Nigam Ltd. (BSNL) is going to launch wireless through local loop (WiLL) in
Hyderabad with limited mobility in about a month’s time.
"Initially we are going to sanction 5,000 lines and by the end of this
year it would be expanded to 20,000 lines," said BSNL chief general manager
N V A Rama Rao. He said that the launch of WiLL phones is long over due and it
got delayed because of some technical snags. "We were waiting for
government clearance to finalize a competitive price and now we are all set to
launch the initiative. In addition to Hyderabad we are also looking at six more
cities for the WiLL facility with Limited Mobility in the AP Telecom
circle," he added.
Commenting on the BSNL’s cellular services he said that it is likely that
the service will be launched with 1.6 lakh line capacity and it would cover more
than 80 towns and cities by the end of September 2001. He also added that AP
telecom is also going to introduce a number of value added services like
Intelligent Network (toll free service) in all the districts following reduction
in traffic.
AP telecom circle is also going to have its own call center in Hyderabad to
cater to its wide customer base in entire AP circle. The customers would be able
to access the facilities offered by the call center by phone, fax, post, email
or in person. "We are planing to include services such as commercial,
directory inquiry, changed number announcement, billing inquiry, fax on demand,
and other inquires can be done with the help of the call center. The first call
center in Hyderabad will start its operations by March 2002.
