BSNL reduces Internet lease line charges

INDORE: Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) has announced a reduction in its
Internet lease line charges and charges for its wireless in loop (WLL) services
called Tarang. BSNL has also expanded its Direct Internet Access Services (DIAS).

BSNL, Indore GM, RN Patel informed that BSNL has reduced the rate of Internet
lease line by 50 per cent.

From Rs2.20 lakh per annum, BSNL has reduced lease line charges to
Rs1,02,500. Besides, BSNL has decided to provide a further 25 per cent discount
on Internet lease line for educational purposes. However, these discounts would
not be extended to Internet cafes or Internet service proprietors, Patel said.

Keeping in mind the consumers interest, BSNL has also launched monthly plans
in the Internet lease line segment. Patel, added that BSNL has also reduced the
rates for WLL services. From March 1st this year, the rate for Tarang in rural
area would be Rs120 against the existing Rs250 and there would be 50 free calls
under the new scheme.

Earlier, there were no free calls in Tarang. Likewise, even though the WLL
charge in the city areas has been increased from Rs200 to Rs250, 50 free calls
have been allowed under the new scheme. Besides, from 51 to 300 calls, rate has
been reduced from Rs1.20 to Re one only.

Patel also said that DIAS was being expanded from the existing 60 lines to
120 lines. Two equipments are being installed for this purpose and there will be
two more equipments in the next expansion.

Admitting there had been considerable reduction in the number of landline
connections of BSNL, Patel said that it had been offset by the increase in the
number of Tarang and mobile phone services. “While the number of landline
phone connections had come down by around 4,700 connections, there had been an
increase of around 12,000 connections in the Tarang and mobile phone segment,”
he said.
