Broadband Internet on chugging trains

NEW DELHI: Indian Railways is planning to provide broadband Internet connectivity on running train under the aegis of RailTel Corporation of India (RCIL) by October 2004.



The first commercial trial will be introduced on New Delhi-Bhopal-New Delhi Shatabdi Express on Delhi-Mathura section. RailTel has conducted technical trials successfully on running trains between Tughlakabad and Faridabad stations during April 2003.



According to the press note, provision of broadband Internet connectivity in running trains is intended to enable rail passengers to access Internet facilities for optimum utilization of time in the emerging information technology based knowledge economy.
