If all goes well, former President and scientist, APJ Abdul Kalam—a brand into himself, may well be the brand ambassador for Digital India.

Our country will celebrate her first ever Digital India Week in July 2015, and PM Narendra Modi is expected to finalize a comprehensive plan in a special meeting sometime soon.

“We need to have iconic people personifying modern technology to spread awareness about Digital India. We have reached out to former President APJ Abdul Kalam to be a brand ambassador. He is positive,” a senior government functionary told Indian Express. However, the newspaper did not receive any formal communication from Kalam’s office.

It must be recalled that an informal group of ministers discussed the nature of services and products with mass connect to be launched online during the Digital India Week, during a meeting on March 25. The first set of services to be released include portals for loans, rural e-commerce, national scholarships, lost and found children, e-hospital, tele-medicine and e-bag (online study material for students).

It is also learnt that the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology may tap the subscriber database available with telecom service operators to spread the Digital India message across the country.

Indian Express reported that the ICT ministry plans to have a catchy logo and a tag line for the Digital India Week.
