The award will be presented to the Bangalore-based BPL at Essen in Germany July 5 in recognition of "the product's innovation, functionality, quality, ergonomics, durability and symbolic and emotional content", the company said in a statement here.

"The ergonomic design makes the study lamp compact, lightweight and portable. It's eco-friendly with its solar charging capability and low power consumption," said Abhijit Bansod of Studio ABD, which collaborated with BPL in designing it.

The lamp is available in the Indian market and is set to reach global markets soon.
