BANGALORE: BPL Telecom Business Group has announced the launch of its
Internet service bplnet.com. The new company, bplnet, ill offer Internet
services in 31 cities across India shortly. The service will be accessible from
85 countries around the world from May this year.
Bplnet will offer end-to-end Internet solutions that include dial up access
for individuals and businesses, high speed DSL, managed enterprise networks,
application services, hosting and co-location services and Internet solutions.
The company also has a personal portal www.bplnet.com, which brings news,
entertainment and personal utilities including a scheduler and portfolio
manager. Bplnet.com also plans to offer Internet access on mobile phones and on
televisions using set top boxes, in the near future.
The company states that, to give its customers a superior Internet
experience, the company will focus on Quality of Service (QoS), by providing 24
hour call centre service called NetAssist. It's high port to subscriber ratio
will ensure quick and easy access to its customers. Digital E1 lines will allow
users to enjoy high-speed uninterrupted access at all times, claims a press
release issued by the company.
The company plans to lay over 6,00 kms of fiber optic cables to offer high
bandwidths. According to bplnet chief finance officer G. Subramaniam, "The
company's focus is on building a scalable IP network that will have access to
group optic fiber networks and international gateways in the near future. bplnet
has planned investments in the Internet infrastructure, backbone infrastructure
and strategic investments/alliances to build an Internet E-Co system which will
be in excess of Rs 750 crore in the next couple of years." "An initial
investment of $60 million has gone into this project," said BPL Telecom
Business Group chairman and chief executive officer Rajeev Chandrasekhar.
