BANGALORE: BPL Mobile has announced its plans to enhance the benefits of
calling party pays-based (CPP) charging for incoming calls. BPL Cellular Ltd.
Managing Director K.S. Jayanth Kumar said that with the introduction of CPP,
mobile phone services would become easily affordable and that would not only
lead to more people using mobile phones but also higher usage per subscriber.
The CPP would come into effect on November 1 and it would usher in an era of
affordable mobile telephony, he said.
The use of modern technology ``in our network can support the increased usage
without any compromise in quality'', he said. This was possible as the BPL
mobile network in Kerala had deployed the Synchronomous Digital Hierarchy (SDH)
technology which not only provided for larger capacity and flexibility but also
quicker expansion, thereby, avoiding network congestion. It provided easy
accessibility to the subscribers at all times across 42 towns in Kerala, he
said. Besides, the BPL Mobile network in the State was optimized for minimum
battery consumption so as to reduce the replacement cost, he said.
He said that BPL Mobile had offers such as `Family and friends plan' for
frequently called numbers and the `Gulf super value plan' for NRIs based in West
Asia. In addition, he said, for its subscribers who went overseas frequently,
BPL Mobile had launched the International Roam Free facility.
