BPL allows roaming in 50 networks across 40 nations

NEW DELHI: BPL Mobile Cellular Ltd., with services in Mumbai, Maharashtra,

Goa, Tamil Nadu, Pondicherry and Kerala, has announced that its subscribers can

now use the roaming facility across 50 networks in 40 countries.

This will mean that BPL Mobile roaming subscribers can access and communicate

while they are travelling across the world on the same mobile phone number. And

in this regard, BPL Mobile has tied up with countries most often visited by

Indians like: Germany, France, Netherland, Italy, Denmark, Finland, Belgium,

Switzerland, Sweden, Norway, Greece, Russia, United Kingdom, Singapore, Hong

Kong, Malaysia, Indonesia, Philippines, Thailand, Taiwan, Sri Lanka, Australia,

Mauritius, Seychelles, Maldives and the Gulf. The roaming service is shortly set

to be launched in Spain, Portugal and Bangladesh.

BPL Mobile Cellular Ltd’s chief executive officer & executive director

F B Cardoso said, "The type of community guiding principle for identifying

networks for roaming, with emphasis on the needs of our subscribers. For

example, in Maharashtra, where subscribers have extensive business contacts

& family in the Europe & South East Asia, the focus was on tying up with

networks in the countries of that region."

This apart, all BPL Mobile postpaid & prepaid subscribers can now also

use short mobile messaging (SMS) and send text messages to subscribers of the

roaming networks with whom BPL Mobile has a tie up, across the world. This is

envisaged to make overseas communication more economical for the user.
