BANGALORE: Borland Software Corp has announced the launch of Borland® C++BuilderX,a new C++ integrated development environment (IDE) and Borland® Enterprise Studio for C++, a technology independent application lifecycle management suite for application development in the C++ programming language. According to analyst research firm IDC, C and C++ professionals will remain the largest class of developers through 2005.
"In addition to our 15-year track-record of offering C and C++ solutions, C++BuilderX is the result of over two years of a renewed research and development effort focused on delivering new advanced development capabilities for the entire C++ market," commented Satyen Parikh, Managing Director, Indian Subcontinent, Borland. "Our goal is to address modernization in organizations by bringing C++ development into a new era. We are focused on standards-based C++ application lifecycle management, as well as multi-platform and multi-compiler support as important priorities."
Addressing C++ Industry Mega-trends and Pain Points
Both C++BuilderX and Borland® Enterprise Studio for C++ moreover, address six important mega-trends/pain-points inside of organizations using C++:
1. Continuing use of C++ to build scalable and high-performance applications related to performance computing.
2. Demand for multi-platform support as applications continue to migrate from UNIX to Linux
3. Support and maintenance requirements for millions of lines of C++ legacy code
4. Growth of mobile and embedded device computing that use C++
Broad demand for ANSI/ISO compliance for C++ compilers due to incompatibility between existing C++ environments
5. The need to manage multiple compilers and debuggers on multiple platforms
"When application run-time performance, code size and low-level access to machine functions and resources is critical. C++ is often the language of choice for building the types of applications frequently found in the defense, aerospace, finance, manufacturing, and scientific and engineering industries," explained Rikki Kirzner, research director at IDC. "Many of these developers are using non-integrated tools and are eager for a solution that allows them to overcome the disparities in compiler and platform support in order to build better software, faster."
Advances for a New Era in C++ Development
The new C++BuilderX offers first time UNIX support with VisiBroker CORBA IDE integration. Its IDE based on the same enterprise IDE framework used by Borland JBuilder. A single XML project formats minimizes the complexities of managing multiple compilers and debuggers through a single user interface. Coupled with advanced debugging capabilities this shortens the porting time of applications to new platforms.
Enterprise Studio for C++BuilderX tackles the growing complexity of enterprise applications and offers a first-time technology independent application lifecycle management (ALM) solution across define, design, development, test, deploy and management stages of C++ application development, to help align business needs with software capabilities.
Included in Enterprise Studio for C++BuilderX is the new Borland® Together Edition for C++BuilderX.
