Bombay HC to hear Vodafone tax case on Aug 4

MUMBAI, INDIA: The Bombay High Court has rescheduled hearing of Vodafone's appeal against the country's tax department to August 4, an official at the court said on Monday.

A Vodafone official confirmed that the case, which was earlier set to be heard on Monday, would now be taken up on Wednesday.

Vodafone, fighting a tax bill in India from its 2007 purchase of Hutchison Whampoa Ltd's mobile business in the country, had filed an appeal with the Bombay court in June challenging the tax department's jurisdiction over the tax bill.

Vodafone has not said how much the authorities were seeking, but a person with knowledge of the matter has said it was about 120 billion rupees
