USA: RIM today announced the lauch of 9700, a follow-on to the first Bold introduced last year. The model will be available on AT&T, T-Mobile.
AT&T subscribers can buy the 9700 for $299.99 with a two-year service contract, including a data plan. Then they’ll receive a $100 rebate on the phone. T-Mobile also has a $199.99 price tag for the phone, with contract, but does not make customers go through the rigamarole of obtaining the rebate.
Specs on the new model include the following: a 624 MHz processor with 256 MB of Flash memory; 3.2 megapixel camera; and GPS capability to use AT&T’s Navigator directions service that includes real-time traffic data. The phone is designed to run on faster 3G wireless networks, which carriers are continually rolling out in the U.S.
The 9700 includes the new touch-sensitive trackpad, which replaces the previous trackball technology, for navigating through the device’s various programs, such as e-mail, phone, Web surfing, etc. The touch-sensitive pad was introduced in the Curve 8520.
