PATNA, INDIA: Stepping up its fight against cyber crimes, Bihar has announced the launch of its first-ever Cyber Crime Investigation Unit (CCIU). The unit became operational on Saturday at Kotwali police station in Patna, says a news agency report.

"It is the first-ever unit in Bihar and will come in handy for probing cyber crime and mobile phones complaints. Now onwards people can even get their complaint registered with the police stations through e-mail," a PTI report quoted Senior Superintendent of Police Amit Kumar Jain as saying.

Many states all over India are now leaving no stones unturned in their fight against cyber crimes. Kerala, being one of the examples, had earlier this year, set up cyber cells across the state.

As part of the move, Kerala had provided Internet connectivity in all police stations. Another state among many others who intensified their fight against cyber crime off late was Tripura, which in March this year issued guidelines that propose strict action (including a 10-year jail term) for anyone committing cyber crimes.
