Arun K Kapoor, President – BIG TV, said: “Crossing the 5-lakh customer milestone within two months is indeed a testimony to the superior value proposition offered by BIG TV and its success in accelerating the growth momentum of DTH sector in India. Our plans of defining the future of TV viewing in India are on desired course, and we are fully-geared to add over 400,000 subscribers every month with an on-ground infrastructure spanning 6500 Indian towns."

"On an average, the entire DTH market in India adds approximately 350,000 subscribers every month. BIG TV’s aggressive subscriber acquisition strategy has grown the monthly average subscriber additions to 650,000. BIG TV’s half-million subscriber milestone is equivalent to 40 per cent of the industry’s gross additions during the last two months. This is a true leadership statement from BIG TV DTH,” he added.

"BIG TV DTH is targeting five million subscribers within first year of operations. It will also double its channel bouquet to 400 by next year. BIG TV recently announced a three-month free subscription offer on its Rs 1490 entry price as part of a slew of innovative offers during the current festive season. The current three-months free subscription offer makes BIG TV 33 per cent more affordable than any other comparative offer available in the market today," he said.

BIG TV has already tied up with Thomson Headend Systems for a complete head-end system to boost its number of channels to about 400 during the next year. To augment its growth plans, BIG TV has already booked four more transponders of the MEASAT satellite, which would take its total transponder capacity to 12. The worlds latest MPEG4 technology platform deployed by BIG TV enables it to offer double the number of channels in same transponder capacity as against established DTH players.
