NEW DELHI: IBM has recently announced a new version of its popular database software DB2 that comes inbuilt with a 'SAP tuner' feature that configures DB2 automatically to run in SAP environments.

DB2 8.2.2 is the result of joint efforts of engineering teams at the SAP and IBM campus. According to Janet Perna, general manager of IBM's Information Management group, the database is "preconfigured and pretuned out of the box" for the latest versions of SAP.

With Oracle acquiring PeopleSoft, and a very high percentage of SAP implementations running on Oracle and SQL Server, this seems to be IBM's effort of strengthening its position in the enterprise arena.
