According to a press release the revenue of eBid in 2008 grew 25 per cent month on month in the UK, with over one million listings recorded in the UK. The company attributed this growth to the “eBay policy changes and a surge in new listings to eBid”.

Launched in 1999, eBid provides subscribers with unlimited free listings, subscription deals and a standard minimal final value fee, the release added. It had received 'Gold Award for Best eBay alternative on the net 2008' from UK publication Webuser.

Regarding the expansion plan, eBid CEO Mark Wilkinson said: "This launch is in direct response to users in these countries requesting to list their items for sale in a safe and secure environment in partnership with a company that demonstrates its commitment to 'person to person' trading and international growth."
