CALCUTTA, August 30: Delhi-based

IIS Infotech, the sole distributor of Cognos, a business intelligence

tool, has now extended the offering to BI implementation, consultancy and

authorized training services.

Amongst the products that Cognos offers, PowerPlay and Impromptu are

the most widely used. PowerPlay is an OLAP tool to closely monitor the

operations of a business. The software organizes and presents data in a

context critical to understanding what exactly is happening in any area of

responsibility. Impromptu works as a front-end to enterprise databases

like Oracle and allows users to generate adhoc and static reports using

Microsoft-style user interface. Scenario and 4Thought are data mining

tools for statistical analysis and forecasting. Cognos has extended the

reporting and OLAP capabilities to the web by introducing Impromptu Web

Reports and PowerPlay Web Server.

Cognos, IIS Infotech Ltd. Business Manager G. Anandan said, "We

intend to have 100 customers by March 2000 and make the existing customers

use Business Intelligence by offering consultancy services around it.

Organizations in the process of implementing ERP have evinced a keen

interest in Cognos tools."
