BECL is one of Gujarat’s major state power generation companies, and its manual processes of managing data across various departments resulted in inefficiencies in the areas of procurement, account payables and contract management. SAP ERP on Sybase ASE is aimed at supporting BECL to manage resources efficiently and achieve greater transparency across the organization. The project is expected to go live within six months and is being implemented by IBM with Gujarat Info Petro Limited.

“SAP ERP on Sybase ASE will help BECL improve response time, manage data flow effectively and enable better decision making which in turn will enhance productivity and efficiency,” said Nayab Hussain Pathan - IT Head, Bhavnagar Energy Company Limited. “In addition to scalability and localization capabilities, SAP has emerged as an ideal choice against competition that will help us operate profitably and in line with industry best practices.”

BECL joins the list of many other Indian power sector companies who have recently adopted SAP Sybase ASE that include Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Co. Ltd and Abhijeet Power in Nagpur. Other customers in India running SAP ERP application on Sybase ASE include Industrial Mineral Comp, Jeans Kit and Sanghvi Foods, to name a few, adds the company.

“Public sector companies in India are realizing the benefits of process optimization across departments and need for better database management to improve operational efficiency and reduce overall costs”, said Mathew Thomas, Vice President — Strategic Industries, SAP India. "SAP ERP on Sybase ASE at BECL, will serve as a single source for acquisition, management and maintenance of information across the organization and enable them to execute and optimize their IT and business strategies.”
