MUMBAI: Aiming to achieve Numero Uno position, Bharti Televentures will invest Rs 225 crore this year in the Mumbai circle for its cellular service 'Airtel'. The company has chalked out aggressive strategy to compete with the WLL and cellular players.

The company is planning to pump-in around Rs 150 crore cap-ex in network infrastructure and around Rs 75 crore in customer care and IT infrastructure.

Airtel Mumbai COO Atul Jhamb said, "We already have very robust network in place and with the additional investment we would be able to provide hassle free service to our customers."

Airtel currently has 320 cell sites in Mumbai and is planning to add around 250 more this year. Also it has installed an additional Siemens switch. "Though we have enough infrastructure in place to handle the cell traffic but with this additional switch we will have an advantage over others," Jhamb added.

Airtel completed its one-year of operation in Mumbai this July and currently has 3.5 lakh subscribers. The company is expecting that with the new IUC regime in place, around 15 lakh new subscribers are expected to join the GSM club in Mumbai and Airtel is intending to grab around 30 percent share of the pie.
