NEW DELHI, INDIA: Bharti Airtel and South Africa's MTN, which are in exclusive talks for a proposed $24 billion tie-up, were yet to approach the Indian finance ministry for approval, a senior government official, who did not want to be named, told reporters.
Bharti and MTN are looking at a cash and stock deal, which would need approval of the government if it changed the equity shareholding pattern of the Indian firm.
