Bharti denies reports on tower biz sale

NEW DELHI, INDIA: Telecom major Bharti Airtel today said it has no plans to sell its tower company – Bharti Infratel.

Speaking on the sidelines of the ASSOCHAM award ceremony, Sunil Bharti Mittal, chairman and CEO, Bharti Enterprises, said that the company has no plans on entering into any agreement on the sale of the tower business.

“We have not taken any decision to enter in to any agreement,” Mittal said.

There have been reports that the company has been in talks to sell around 10 per cent of its tower business to a private equity player.

On the allocation of spectrum, Mittal urged the government to make adequate allotments to existing players before allotting to new ones.

Mittal was felicitated with the Outstanding Business Leader 2007 and Fali S. Nariman, president Bar Association of India with the Outstanding Law leader 2007, by the Society of Indian Law Firms (SILF) and the industry body ASSOCHAM.
