NEW DELHI: Bharti Tele-Ventures Ltd., an Indian Cellular Mobile service
operator, has announced the amalgamation of its cellular mobile business under a
single subsidiary " Bharti Cellular Ltd.", subject to all legal and
regulatory approvals. This was decided in a meeting of the board of directors on
May 31, 2002.
Bharti Cellular Ltd., a wholly owned subsidiary of Bharti Tele-Ventures holds
licenses for the cellular circles of Delhi, Mumbai, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Madhya
Pradesh, UP (West), Haryana, Tamil Nadu and Kerala.
Besides this, Bharti Cellular Ltd. also controls Bharti Mobile Ltd., which
provides cellular mobile services in Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Punjab,
Bharti Mobitel Ltd. which provides cellular mobile services in Kolkata, Bharti
Mobinet Ltd., which provides cellular mobile services in Chennai, as its
subsidiaries. These are now proposed to be merged into Bharti Cellular Ltd.
Bharti Telenet Ltd., which provides mobile services in Himachal Pradesh and
Basic Services in Madhya Pradesh will demerge its cellular division, which will
also be merged into Bharti Cellular Ltd.".
Bharti provides cellular mobile services under the brand name AirTel in Delhi,
Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Kolkata and Chennai and
soon will launch services in Mumbai, Maharastra, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, UP
(West), Haryana, Tamil Nadu and Kerala.
