MUMBAI: Benq (erstwhile Acer Communications and Multimedia Pvt. Ltd) will start shipping its DVD drives in the country by the end of April. The waterproof keyboards will follow suit in the second half of the year.

The DVD drives will be priced at around Rs 3,000. States Sandeep Nair, MD, Benq India, "This price is higher than that of CD-ROM drives. But the market is shifting from CDs to DVDs and this is where the future lies."

The waterproof keyboards are priced from Rs 400 to Rs 700, positioning it between the entry-level and multimedia keyboards.

Says Sandeep, "We have noticed that buyers in A-class cities are very conscious of the looks of their keyboards and the kind of value it provides them. The waterproof keyboard is an extension to our existing range of keyboards." Benq also has plans to bring in credit card-sized digital cameras which can easily fit into a pocket, though nothing has been finalized about it yet.
