BANGALORE, INDIA: Magma Design Automation Inc., a provider of chip design software, today announced that Beceem Communications Inc., a provider of terminal chipsets for Mobile WiMAX, used Magma's integrated digital IC implementation and sign-off system to tape out a WiMAX Wave 2 solution on TSMC's 65-nanometer (nm) process.

“By providing excellent support and an advanced, automated flow that overcame obstacles such as crosstalk and on-chip variation, Magma allowed us to successfully implement this revolutionary device while cutting turnaround time significantly," said Sunny Padacheril, vice president of SoC Engineering at Beceem Communications.

“Beceem's chip design teams in Bangalore and Santa Clara benefited greatly from the dedicated local Magma support in taping out this chip. And, the availability of qualified Quartz RC sign-off rules directly from 'TSMC-Online' made adoption of Magma's sign-off tools fast and smooth," he added.

With Magma's system, Beceem was able to reduce the overall turnaround time significantly. Beceem used Magma's Quartz RC, Quartz Time and Quartz Rail sign-off software for timing, extraction and static IR analysis, said a press release.

"Tapeout of this 65-nm WiMAX device validates Magma's digital IC implementation and sign-off flow," said Premal Buch, general manager of Product Development of Magma's Design Implementation Business Unit.

"Beceem's success reinforces Magma's leading role in providing an automated, integrated RTL-to-GDSII solution with sign-off for today's cutting-edge consumer devices," he said.
