NEW YORK, USA:  Digital shy music band Beatles is all set to make a plunge into the digital music world. The legendary music band has licensed its songs to MTV Networks' Rock Band videogame series, ‘The Wall Street Journal’ reported.

The paper said that the deal, expected to be announced on Thursday, would be a coup for the Viacom Inc., which owns the MTV network, in its battle with rival Activision Blizzard Inc. for supremacy in the world of rock-and-roll videogames. Activision had hit the music game world with Guitar Hero, featuring Aerosmith.

Recently the Financial Times had reported that MTV and Beatles were having discussion over the creation of a 'Beatles-themed video game'.

Beatles songs are currently not available in any digital format, including iTunes.

Once the deal with the Beatles is materialized, the ‘Rock Band’, developed by MTV's Harmonix and published by Electronic Arts Inc, would have the potential to fight rival ‘Guitar Hero’.

Considered to the one of the greatest rock bands of all time, Beatles had always taken care of not breaking into the cyber space or online game world.

And this is one reason why the advent of Beatles into the digital world has created ripples among the pop music fans all over the world and is considered an astronomic win for MTV.

How MTV is going to use the Beatles track is not clear yet. More details are expected at today’s joint press conference by MTV and Apple Corps, the company formed by Beatles to administer the band's music catalog.

Sometimes back there was a rumor that Beatles was going to sign a deal with Apple for its digital advent. Former Beatle Paul McCartney had even said the band would go digital by the end of 2008.
