The company now has around 360 employees and plans to increase the headcount to 545 this year.

The new BEA facility has more than 60,000 sq ft space and can accommodate 550 people. Engineers at the center will work on key WebLogic and AquaLogic development that would support emerging telecom and RFID markets worldwide. Sanjeev Kumar has been appointed to head the BEA R&D center in India.

Of the 360 employees, around 275 are engaged in development and support while 35 are in sales. Alfred Chuang, chairman and CEO, BEA Systems, said, “We recognize the potential in India’s emerging market and are assessing ways to increase our investments and look forward to work closely with customers and partners.

The company is also considering the establishment of a solutions center in Bangalore to focus on supporting BEA’s long-term expansion plans in India and APAC. This would showcase new solutions and technologies like Service Oriented Architecture (SOA).

Chuang was quite optimistic that the company would increase sales in India with its new products like AquaLogic. “There are not many legacy systems in India which makes it easy for enterprises to take up SOA,” said Chuang.

The company is also keen on engaging the student community and is planning tie-ups with eight-12 universities including IITs, BITs and IIIT.
