NEW DELHI: BEA Systems, an infrastructure software provider, is aggressively eyeing the Indian telecom market for growth. After having globally launched its Weblogic Communication Platform, the company has introduced this product in the Indian market. The platform, which is targeted specifically at telecom carriers, consists of Weblogic SIP Server and Weblogic Network Gatekeeper.

"Indian telecom market is exploding and it has a huge opportunity to above the European market in terms of the variety of services offered here. We are excited to provide this opportunity to telcos," opined BEA Systems, Inc. product management and business development senior director Induprakas Kodukula.

The company already has a sizable telecom customer base with 30 percent of its global revenue coming from telecom operators. Leveraging this, the platform, formerly codenamed Project Da Vince, is an integrated standards-based suite of products and technologies being developed to help telecom companies deliver and manage converged voice, data, video and mobile services.

The BEA WebLogic SIP Server is a product designed for building and deploying services in a SIP environment, while the BEA WebLogic Network Gatekeeper is designed to allow carriers to define, manage and enforce access and quality of service (QoS) parameters for network resources.

According to Kodukula, operators face many problems in service delivery. While introducing a new service environment they have to write the codes for the service as well as run it, but with this platform, they can easily build applications. Also, the platform forms a protective layer over the firm's core networkinfrastructure. SLAs, policy agreement, etc. can be better implemented on such a platform.

Enumerating the benefits of using this platform, Kodukala said, "The Weblogic Communication Platform helps in faster time to market of an application, helps in making more creative applications and decreases the cost of a new service for the operator as well as the customer."

BEA currently employs 200 people in India including an R&D staff of 150. According to BEA Systems India Pvt Ltd country head Shailender Kumar, the company's India operations contribute five percent of its APAC revenue. "Our biggest Indian customers include BSNL and Indian Railways. We are aiming at a 50 percent growth rate this year and are targeting verticals like BFSI, software services and government," he added.

BEA Systems, Inc. reported total revenue of $1,080.1 million for the fiscal year ended January 31, 2005,. Headquartered in San Jose, Calif., BEA has 77 offices in 31 countries. The company's Indian partners include Ericsson, HP, Wipro, TCS, etc.
