Krafton announced the coming of Battlegrounds Mobile India (previously PUBG Mobile India). The government banned 118 Chinese apps, including PUBG in September 2020; as a follow-up of the ban 47, 59 and 43 Chinese apps (respectively) favouring “national interest and security” under the provisions of Section 69A of the Information Technology Act. Indians took the ban well, except that of PUBG, considering the huge user base.

In November 2020, the PUBG Corporation announced that Krafton had invested $100 Mn to create a new game PUBG Mobile India “specifically for the Indian market”. The company also announced that it would maximize data security for its players and adhere to the local regulations. Thus, Battlegrounds Mobile India comes in with data centres in India and Singapore, PUBG Spin-Offoutfits and features. It will also have its own esports ecosystem with tournaments and leagues. The game will launch as a free-to-play experience on mobile devices with a limit of ₹7,000 in-game spendings.

1. The pre-registration date

The pre-registration for Battlegrounds Mobile India will begin on the Google Play store on May 18 for Android users. There are no details on when the pre-registration for iPhone users will begin. The game will likely release for Android first followed by iOS in the days to come. Krafton also highlighted that it has specific rewards for fans when they pre-register the game. These rewards would be specific to Indian players only.

2. Game available only for 18+

The game will allow only those who are above 18 years of age to play the game because of safety issues. Under 18 years players will need to have to get consent from parents to play the game. As per the policy, players under 18 years of age will have to provide the mobile number of their parent to confirm that they are eligible to play the game.

3. Data Centres

Additionally, to ensure the privacy of the players, their information will be stored in India and Singapore. Last time, PUBG Corporation, announced that the privacy and security of Indian player data is a top priority for PUBG Corporation. The company will conduct regular audits and verifications on the storage systems holding Indian users’ personally identifiable information to reinforce security and ensure that their data is safely managed.

This time, the company has also provided that all data collection and storage will be in full compliance with all applicable laws and regulations in India and for players here.

4. eSports ecosystem

This game will also include gameplay of three hours only and a cap of Rs 7,000 on in-app purchases, due to the various previous controversies on the game. There is also a possibility that Battlegrounds Mobile India will have a different Royale Pass season than PUBG Mobile. But, many famous PUBG players have said that ex-PUBG users will be able to retain their games.

5. How to pre-register?

On May 18 Krafton will list the game on Google Play Store. Search for the game and when Battlegrounds Mobile India appears, you will be able to see the Pre-register option there. Click on it to pre-register for the game.
