BANGALORE: To reinstate the status gained as a leading Global
hub of technological innovation, Bangalore recently touched another
milestone as the most preferred IT destination in the country.
Every week in the past 100 weeks, an IT company has been registered to set up
base in Bangalore, claimed the state’s IT secretary, Vivek Kulkarni.
"This is a record of sorts. I am affirmed to believe that Bangalore is
the only city in the country, to have got such registrations," he said
while addressing a batch of Korean students participating in Aptech’s Indian
Window Program.
A couple of years back Bangalore was the house for high tech companies,
engaged in advanced level engineering works, to have registered and set up base
in the city. Of late its companies involved in Business Process Outsourcing and
call center, which have registered and applied to set up base.
While the year 2000 was an exception with roughly over Rs 1000 crore as
investment from IT companies, this year an investment of Rs 350 to 400 crore is
expected, claimed Kulkarni pointing to the global recession.
"So fare there are more than 1000 IT companies which have set up base in
Bangalore and signed up for exports of services, apart from training houses and
local market vendors," said Kulkarni.
Apart from Bangalore, the Government of Karnataka, is making an effort to
