BANGALORE: IT companies in Bangalore have come to take disruptions like bandhs, floods and incidents like the violence, which followed Kannada cine-star Dr Rajkumar’s death, in their stride.

Bangalore and the whole of Karnataka had a forced holiday on October 4, on account of a Statewide bandh that called by several Kannada organizations protesting against the Center’s stand on the Belgaum boundary issue with Maharashtra.

Most IT companies in the city were closed yesterday and would be working this Saturday to compensate for the loss of the working day. BV Naidu, director, STPI Bangalore, said that there was no loss.

“Most of the companies had planned for this much in advance since the bandh call was given some time back. So they had made alternative arrangements.”

He added that most BPOs had made arrangements to transport their employees much earlier or shifted some of the operations to other locations. According to the STPI, the everyday productivity of the IT industry in Bangalore is $40 million per day. However, Naidu feels that any loss would be made up by the compensatory working day. He said that such incidents would not tarnish the Bangalore brand since “such disruptions could happen anywhere.”

Meanwhile, the bandh was almost peaceful with stray incidents of violence reported from certain parts of the State.
