Ballmer moots telecom, tech unity

BARCELONA: Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer said that there is a need for a device that can cater to both personal and business information needs as the traditional distinctions between these two are blurring.

In his keynote address at the 3GSM conference here he also called upon the telecom and technology companies to work together to meet the growing demand for multi-media mobile services.

Ballmer also announced mobile TV service in the UK in association with Virgin Mobile and BT Group.

He also informed during his address about the licensing of ActiveSync protocols to Nokia and Sony Ericsson to allow those devices to connect to the PC and sync with Outlook and Exchange, even though they don't run Windows Mobile.
