BALCO bags CII-ITC sustainability award

NEW DELHI, INDIA: Bharat Aluminium Company (Balco), a part of the Anil Agarwal-led Vedanta Group, has been conferred an award by President Pranab Mukherjee for its achievements on sustainable development.

The award, instituted by the Confederation of Indian Industry and diversified corporate house ITC, is given to a company that is able to produce commendable results from the deployment of policy and processes in the area of sustainable development.

The company was lauded for its initiative that touches the lives of more than 150,000 people in 230 villages, spread across three areas of operation -- Korba, Sarguja and Kawardha in Chhattisgarh.

The award was received at an event Monday at Vigyan Bhavan here by Deepak Prasad, vice president for hot metals.
