Bal Thackeray no more, staying calm is the best tribute: Netizens

Bangalore, India: Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray died in Mumbai at 3:33pm today. He was 86. The death was announced in a brief statement by doctors from Lilavati Hospital who had been treating him, says an NDTV report.

Shiv Sena supporters who had gathered outside Thackeray's home broke down and tried to console each other. Thousands more are expected to reach Matoshree to express their grief. Security, already present in the area around Matoshree as well as Shiv Sena Bhavan, the party headquarters, has been stepped up again.

The news has created a furore on Twitter. Thousands of tweets urging the people of Mumbai to stay calm are pouring in. ''Staying calm is the best tribute one can give to the departed soul,'' tweets VJ. Some are of the view that the news marks the end of an era. ''Bal Thackeray gone! End of an era,'' says a tweet.
