HYDERABAD: Baan, global provider of B2B collaborative commerce solutions and
a unit of the production management division of Invensys, a UK based company,
has chalked out plans to expand its research and development center in Hyderabad.
The expansion is a part of Invensys’ overall strategy to lower the ongoing
software development costs, increase software productivity and deliver
interoperable sensor-to-supply chain solutions.
"We have already invested more than $ 30 million for our Hyderabad
operations over a period of five years. We are going to invest around $4 million
every year. In fact opening up a center on the Indian soil saves us more than 60
per cent when it comes of development of products," said, Gopal Madnani,
CEO for Baan Info System India Ltd.
As a part of its expansion, the Baan development center at Hyderabad would also
be developing software for the Invensys production management division companies
such as Wonderware, Foxboro and Triconex. The primary objective of the $12
billion Invensys is to focus on process management from shopfloor level to the
boardroom level and a development center in Hyderabad would be working on the
same lines.
The company’s development center at Hyderabad already develops software for
ERP financials, migrations, aerospace and defense, database drivers,
e-enterprise, e-procurement etc. "We are going to focus on oil and
manufacturing industry in India. We are developing some specific modules for
that sector within the country and progressive work will be done in that for in
the coming months," he added.
As of now the company has a manpower of 400 software professionals working on
various projects for its global clients, as per its expansion plans this
manpower would be increased at a rate of 30 per cent annually.
Presently, the company is engaged in developing ERP products for its global
clients. "In about eight months time we are going to come out with our
first product in that direction from our Hyderabad development center. In all,
we are working towards three major products in the ERP, CRM, SCM arena. All of
them will be rolled out in the coming year," he informed.
Baan develops software solutions and services which help companies do business
in the 'networked economy' - where information, integration and Internet
collaboration are ever more important. Business software developed by the
company uses the Internet to connect people, processes and places; to automate,
streamline and help reduce the cost of doing business; to make, buy, sell,
service, account, distribute and plan more effectively.
