Awaiting IT refund? Beware of cyber criminals

NEW DELHI, INDIA: Security experts have cautioned IT assessees of a step up in phishing attack with the nearing of dates for filing Income Tax returns for the financial year.

PTI reports quoting Vinoo Thomas, Technical Product Manager, McAfee Labs as saying that cyber crooks are on a prowl and have been noticed sending fake emails.

He said the fake emails claim 'IT refund is available'. Once it is clicked, the user is directed to a website that looks like that of IT dept. And there, they ask you to disclose your personal financial details in a form. That information will end up with a scammer who can empty your credit card or bank account in no time ," he adds.
