Avaya to install converged network for Kennedy Krieger Institute

BANGALORE: Avaya Inc., global provider of voice and data networks to
businesses, today announced it is installing a converged voice, video and data
network for Kennedy Krieger Institute, one of the world's premier health care
facilities for children and adolescents with neurological disorders.

Kennedy Krieger will use the network for advanced applications - including
telemedicine, voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) and wireless technology.

The Institute is headquartered in Baltimore, Maryland, and cares for more than
10,000 children with brain and spinal cord injuries and genetic disorders each
year. It has more than 20 outpatient clinics, three inpatient programs -
including one at the Marcus Institute in Atlanta - and specialists in 14 medical
disciplines.

The converged network will also make video telemedicine possible. In addition to
consulting on patient care, Kennedy Krieger plans to video-teleconference
between various locations and business functions, such as finance and human
resources. This will enable staff in Maryland and Georgia to work together on a
regular basis without traveling.

Phase one of the three-step installation is complete, with new voice servers
and voice mail installed in each of the Institute's locations.

Voice, video and data convergence is planned to be operational at all
locations by June of this year.

The Avaya Enterprise Class IP Solutions (ECLIPS) system allows IP telephony
and converged voice, data and video applications to coexist with
circuit-switched telephony and digital telephones. This gives enterprises the
ability to re-use their installed wire and cable infrastructure, and make the
change transparent to its users.

Additionally, the upgrade will reduce costs for Kennedy Krieger. With the
installation of Avaya? IP600 Communication Servers and Avaya R300 Remote Office
Communicators at its remote clinics, hospital personnel will be able to place
phone calls over the data network, eliminating long distance toll charges
between remote sites. Interconnecting all sites also simplifies network
management, since changes to the phone system will take a few hours rather than
weeks.

The installation includes Avaya DEFINITY? Enterprise Communication Servers (ECS),
in addition to the Avaya IP600 Communication Servers and Avaya R300 Remote
