This portal will provide students of architecture, civil engineering, mechanical engineering, gaming and animation and industrial design free access to Autodesk software and at the same time offer them an opportunity to communicate and collaborate with students across the globe.

As of today more than 1100 universities across 54 countries are a part of Autodesk’s Student Community portal. Students and faculty across India with a valid university ID can join this community and access the various tools available on this portal.

Participants to the community would have access to a host of tutorials, invitation to forums, class discussions, social networking and a library of international projects and case studies. The site also provides access for students to search for employment and internship from a wide range of employers by searching through thousands of job listings.

India was amongst the five countries beside US, UK, Australia and New Zealand selected for the pilot launch of this portal. Students from four of India’s premier institutes -- IIT Delhi, IIT Bombay, Sir JJ School of Architecture, Mumbai and School of Planning & Architecture, Delhi -- were involved in the initiative.

More than 1000 Indian students registered themselves as members of this community during the pilot phase of the project. Students from IIT Delhi used Autodesk tools to participate in an International Design competition.

Speaking on the initiative, Rajiv Nair, regional director, Autodesk India, said, “With India becoming the hub for design outsourcing and educational institutions playing a critical role in supporting the industry, it is important for graduates to be better prepared with cutting edge technology. Autodesk’s recent initiative is aimed at acquainting Indian students with the wide possibilities that 3D design technologies offer and provide them a larger platform for marketing themselves to the global community.”
