NEW DELHI: Autodesk of Bangalore has launched a Geographic Information System
(GIS) design server based on Oracle solutions. Employing a data-driven approach,
the server integrates geo-spatial systems to make location-based information
easily accessible. Autodesk Asia-Pacific director Ashok Kumar said that the GIS
design server gives thousands of designers, planners and operational users
seamless access to location-aware, mission critical databases.
The GIS design server stores information in native Oracle databases that
allow users to access information using standard Oracle tools. And, thanks to
the integrated Autodesk solution, information flows freely from the Oracle data
warehouse to the application server then to the mapping and engineering desktops
to the Intranet or over the Internet to reach the mobile field locations. The
server also processes data and edits the enterprise database. It also accesses
and edits detailed maps almost instantly for thousands of concurrent users
through a display system. The company has already launched the server in UK and
the US and is now planning to launch it in China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, New Zealand
and Japan. The company has donated GIS software worth $50,000 to the Prime
Minister disaster management cell, to help rehabilitate the people of Gujarat.
