CHENNAI: "We are providing you the tools and it is up to the market to make it a success," said AutoDesk’s Asia Pacific Solutions Director for platform technology division, Denis Branthonne. He was talking about the recently released AutoCAD 2004.

According to Branthonne, "Using paper is wasting energy and cost. When there is so much of intelligence in the drawing itself why send the designs in paper that cannot give the details. Using the features in the new release–AutoDesk express viewer, password protection and digital signature–an architect sitting in Japan or US can sub-contract some of the design works to firms in India."

"While designers so far were dependent on emails and papers for sub-contracting, with AutoCAD 2004 one has a tool that is more flexibility in data sharing," he said. Speaking to Cyber News Service soon after the launch of the product in Chennai, Branthonne elaborated that the new release, which is both a platform and a product, has three main themes–creative speed, share with ease and manage with efficiency. It took 500 developers nearly 22 months to develop the product.

"Performance is what we mean by creative speed. As an AutoCAD DWG file is almost 52 percent smaller than the previous release, it’s much faster to open and transmit data when emailing, uploading and downloading the files," he said adding that with the use of AutoCAD 2004, a designer can create presentation drawings with high-quality graphics right in the AutoCAD application without the need for an additional software.

While adding color and other features in the earlier design model required DWG files to be translated into PDF files, which could then be worked upon on PhotoShop to make it look nice and presentable, a designer can work directly on the DWG files.
