BANGALORE: Autodesk, Inc. has announced the release of Autodesk OnSite, an
enterprise solution for bringing design and location based information to the
point of work via mobile devices. Autodesk OnSite utilizes the Palm OS platform,
Oracle8I Lite and the Microsoft mobile computing operating system. Autodesk
OnSite integrates mobile tasks and corporate information systems by providing an
interactive, two-way communication environment that ties the mobile worker with
the overall decision support system.
By communicating live data between corporate databases and the point of work,
Autodesk OnSite helps industries with large mobile workforces compete through
faster decision making, reduced operational expenses, improved customer service,
and streamlined data maintenance. Autodesk India Private Limited managing
director SAARC region S Sridhar said that in the near future Autodesk is
planning strategic alliances with some large Indian corporate houses for
Internet-based services.
In India, Autodesk is planning to open four divisions–technical,
assistance, information systems and training support–in addition to a
Developers Consistency group that already operates from Bangalore. Autodesk
plans to invest about $78 million for all these divisions. Worldwide, the
company generated revenues of $820 million for 1999-2000, which is expected to
increase to $900 million next year.
