Attrition higher in Q1: Wipro

BANGALORE, INDIA: Wipro Technologies has said its attrition rate for the first quarter this year has increased to 20.1 per cent from 17.1 per cent during previous quarter.

Around 1.5 per cent of the employees were asked to look out for other options due to performance related issues.

"The attrition rate in the Wipro Technologies, excluding BPO, has increased when compared to the sequential quarter, which was 17 per cent," Rajesh Ramaiah, corporate treasurer, told CyberMedia News.

"Reason being employees going for higher studies, salary cycle, due to performance cycle and some voluntary resignation, which cannot be controlled," said Ramaiah. "As regards performance, some are induced for counseling and training if necessary. Beyond that, around 1.5 per cent of the employees are asked for look out for other options."

In IT services, the company currently has 53,073 employees, with a net addition of 2,719 employees for the first quarter. During the quarter the company had 2400 joinees from the campus.

The company continues to look at more campus recruitment this year.
