HYDERABAD: ATI Technologies, which acquired Hyderabad-based CuTe Solutions in February 2005, stated that the company would invest millions in the Indian center. Presently, CuTe Solutions has around 80 employees of which 77 are engineers. ATI is planning to hire 100 more engineers by the end of 2005. The size of the acquisition was not revealed.

ATI Technologies CTO and consumer business unit senior VP Adrian Hartog said, "This is the first such development center outside North America. We intend to utilize the talent available to broaden our audio and digital media product offerings. Consumer electronics market is an exciting unit to work with and India is one of the major markets from business perspective too."

ATI Technologies India MD Dasardha R Gude said, "We have got high-end talent available in our country and this is indeed a good opportunity for engineers to work with market leader like ATI. We have got all the tools and equipment needed for engineers to work on various applications that ATI would expect. Hiring one engineer involves advanced tools and equipment to work on and that's the reason we are stating that the company has decided to invest mutli-million dollars in the Indian center."

Foreseeing great business momentum in the consumer electronics space that includes, mobile gaming, gaming consoles, high-definition TVs, PDAs, etc. Hartog was of the opinion that for the next five years, graphics, multimedia and gaming in various consumer electronics will be the hot thing. "If you consider market studies, by 2008, all mobile handsets should be camera-enabled. Emerging markets like China and India, where the PC market and mobile market are increasing at a faster rate, we would see graphics playing an indispensable role," he added.
