Assam's registration project wins e-Governance award

GUWAHATI, ASSAM: The Union Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances has felicitated Assam's Computerisation of Registration (Panjeeyan) Project with the Gold Icon National Award for 2012-13.

With the support of the Finance department under the Assam Government, the Revenue and Disaster management department had implemented the state-wide Computerisation of Registration (Panjeeyan) Project in Assam.

Under the project, the manual system of maintaining records and registers across all 75 sub-registrar offices across the state has been replaced by virtue of computerisation of records.

The registration processes involved in sub-registrar offices included lot of paper work. recording documents like sale deed, mortgage, agreement, lease deed, power of attorney, will etc. entailed a lot of paperwork.

According to the award committee, Process re-engineering through application of Information Technology (IT) has brought about a remarkable change in the service delivery system and improved efficiency in the offices by eliminating the need to manually create and then store physical registers and other records, quoted a Business Standard report.

Government of Karnataka's Project for 'Transformation of Mineral and Administration through e-governance' has been selected as the Silver Icon in the category of Excellence in Government Process Re-engineering.

The 'Online Voting System (OVS)' of the state Election Commission of Gujarat has been selected as the Bronze Icon in the same category.
