SWEDEN: Ascom Wireless Solutions, on-site wireless communication provider throughout Europe and North America has launched its new nurse call system with positioning using RFID technology.

Many elderly people living in care homes suffer from dementia of varying types and severity, but can be still physically healthy and active. They need to be able to call for help at a moment's notice. Even though keeping a watchful eye on these residents is of vital importance, locating them once the call has been received places a heavy burden on staff. "Thanks to Ascom teleCARE WP - a new standard in wireless nurse call for the elderly care segment - this is no longer a problem," said Jan Van Havenbergh, product line manager at Ascom Wireless Solutions.

"We see that the elderly care area is faced with an enormous challenge. An ageing society, that is more demanding for quality care at the same time as there are staff shortages. This calls for more efficiency, in order to continue to provide care at high standards,” added Havenbergh.

Calls for help, from residents and patients are triggered from small wireless wrist devices and sent direct to the responsible staff member, using a combination of new and proven technologies. On top of that, the location of the person calling is also part of the message. This means that staff members are informed about the whereabouts of their residents

and patients. This results in a higher efficiency, as no time is wasted to search for the caller.

The privacy of the residents and patients are respected at all times, as the location is only available during emergency situations, Ascom statement added.
