NEW DELHI: Ascom has launched the Ascotel ISDN telecommunication systems for the SME segment in India. The range comprises an operator terminal, a cordless terminal as well as the Office 20, 30 and 40 basic terminals. The terminals support all the features of the ISDN telecommunication system. The Office family is central to the Ascotel ISDN telecom system. The intelligent operator console and terminals bring the benefits of digital telecommunications to all the workstations enabling features like networking, CTI and messaging. The Office 100 is a cordless terminal, which uses DECT technology and enables mobility up to a range of 300 meters.

The range also includes the EPABX systems Ascotel 2050/2060, which has the approval of TEC. These systems can support up to 128 ports with features like abbreviated dialing, alpha dialing, notepad dialing, call forwarding, call preparation, CLIP, follow me and fetch me, and hands-free talking. It can also transmit large volumes of data directly with ISDN terminals such as PC with ISDN card or group 4 fax. Depending on the configuration the system will be ranged between Rs 51,000 and Rs 1.5

lakh.

The number of ISDN connectivity in India now stands at around 10,000 to 12,000 with about 80 percent of them being in Delhi and Mumbai. Since most of the ISDN concentration is in the two metros of Delhi and Mumbai, Ascom has distributors only in these two cities currently. The company expects the market to grow to 4,00,000 ports by 2000 of which it expects to have a share of 15 percent during the next year. This works out to around 60,000 ports.
