What is Article 370?

Article 370 gave special status to the state of Jammu and Kashmir. It was a 'temporary provision' of the Indian Constitution. All the provisions of the Constitution which are applicable to other states are not applicable to J&K. For example, till 1965, J&K had a Sadr-e-Riyasat for governor and prime minister in place of the chief minister.

What is Article 35A?

Article 35A gives the J&K government the right to decide who qualifies as a ‘permanent resident’. And the permanent resident has some special rights that include land acquisition, settle, and get government jobs, scholarships in the state.

Business opportunity

As govt revoked article 370 and 35A, J&K could become an industrial hub in a few years. Now, IT firms can acquire land in the state to operate their IT and other business from J&K. Not only this, now more IITs, AIIMS and other institutes can be opened that can lead to more jobs in the valley.

Not only large, but small businesses can also grow with the help of digital India and Startup India initiatives. Earlier, it was not possible due to the constitution, now investors can invest for small scale business in the valley as well. There could be even higher possibilities for government and private jobs after the scrapping Article 370.
